Vikings Dominate with Team Effort vs. Munster


Valparaiso showcased what a full team effort looks like on Saturday night at home vs. Munster. In front of a large crowd celebrating middle school night the Vikings did not disappoint winning 74-44. 
Munster (13-3) jumped out early in the first quarter and went on a 6-0 run but Valpo stayed the course and tied it at 15 all before a buzzer beater 3 gave the Mustangs a 15-18 lead after 1. Valpo refocused starting in the second and never looked back winning the second quarter 21-5 and took a 36-23 lead into halftime. Breece Walls and Adler Hazlett led the Vikings on a 16-3 run during that second quarter. The third and fourth quarters were all Valpo as we won the third 16-8 and the fourth 22-13 finishing the game with a 30 point victory. 
Overall the victory was a total team effort as we held Munster below 30% from the field all while we knocked down 53% from deep and 83% from the free throw line. Valpo won the rebounding battle 35-14 including 22-3 in the second half. 7 Vikings finished with 3 or more rebounds on the night.

Jack Kuka gave the Vikes a spark off the bench with his energy on the defensive side of the ball including 5 rebounds on the night. Walls had a complete game with 20 points (Career High), 8 rebounds, and 9 assists. Mason Jones added 20 points and Hazlett finished with 10. 

The Valpo Junior Varsity Boys basketball team defeated the Munster Mustangs 47-33 Saturday. The Vikings were led by Dwayne Smith with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Alec Platipodis had 7 points and 7 rebounds and Matt Hofer had 8 points. Justin Clark had 3 assists. The Viking defense was strong holding Munster to .56 Points per Possession.
