It was a back and forth battle that consisted of a junior showdown between East Chicago’s Dominique Murphy and Valpo’s Jack Smiley. Murphy came into this game leading the state in scoring, and Smiley, looking to prove that he is an elite scorer going into his junior year.

 

Smiley had 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists. Senior big, Alec Platipodis posted his first career double double scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Caden Crowell started off the game hot with two threes in the first quarter and added one more later in the game, adding a couple of more buckets he finished the game with 13 points. Phillip Amones, Trent Kimes, and Jaden Adams all helped on the defensive end forcing multiple turnovers.

 

The Vikings won their first game of the season 71-65 and moved to a record of 1-1. Coach Lieske now has his first win as a Head Coach and looks to go back to back against Northridge on Saturday.
